Boho/ Traditional Living Room Remodel

Living room SOS! That was the message we received loud and clear from a busy mom of three looking to lasso in her living room. Teaselwood Design to the rescue!

We happily dove in, creating our design map book, our usual starting place if the process requires a design overhaul. When you’re out and about furniture shopping or browsing pieces online, this book comes in handy (read: life saver!) to see if that adorable addition that has caught your eye will actually work in the overall scheme.

In addition to our design map book, we also had a specific list of objectives in terms of living room functionality to follow as set by this busy Mom Boss.

  1. Maximize storage for books and toys
  2. Create a more appealing fireplace area
  3. Use family-friendly fabrics
  4. Focus on versatility and adaptability: the space needs to be able to evolve over time and work within their budget
  5. Keep the family’s collection of antique artwork
  6. Tradtioanal but with a Boho twist
  7. Use color, lots of color

Once we had the plan together, it was time to implement it!

First, we came up with a visual for the fireplace and incorporated built-ins flanking it. Hello, subtle storage space. What books, toys and games? No such clutter here! Existing wall was flat with very little detail and was just calling out to be a focus in the room.

Next, we decided to keep the existing leather sofa and work a scheme around it, including a couple of cute chairs covered in navy and white herringbone for a touch of texture. And – get this – they’re made of a Sunbrella fabric that Mom has already tested to the fullest (and they even withstood the marker test.)

The color scheme we chose is a fun one with punches of greens and blues and yellows atop a neutral base. The green velvet chair, for example? It adds a cool and cozy boho vintage feel. It just works in the room, effortlessly and is one super comfy chair.

What else? The daybed. Not only is it is big enough for all the kids to pile on but it’s a great use of the space that has become the reading nook of the living room. It gets a ton of use for story time and cuddling with Mom.

The last piece of the puzzle: The perfect rug to tie it all together. Operation organized living room was a success.
