Tailwater Spa

A historic schoolhouse thoughtfully transformed into a refined riverside lodge rooted in nature and restoration.

Set along the banks of the Salmon River in Altmar, Tailwater Lodge & Spa began as a former elementary school reimagined into a boutique hospitality destination. Teaselwood, in collaboration with Woodbine Hospitality, led the full design and renovation, converting original classrooms into guest suites and transforming the former gymnasium into a lively, welcoming bar—preserving the building’s history while introducing a layered, lodge-inspired warmth. The adaptive reuse honors the structure’s past while giving it renewed purpose as a place of gathering and retreat.

Throughout Tailwater Lodge & Spa, natural materials and tactile finishes bring the surrounding landscape indoors, balancing rustic authenticity with refined comfort. Guest rooms were designed to feel intimate and restorative, while shared spaces encourage connection after long days on the river. The result is a hospitality environment that feels relaxed yet elevated—where heritage architecture, thoughtful renovation, and experiential design come together seamlessly.
