Grafton Farmhouse — Before and After

Vermont

before & after

fall 2022

Working with our wonderful clients from a far, we created this charming farmhouse in the perfect backdrop of woodsy Vermont. The house had much of the original bones and design replaced however we were began anew and fresh with the kitchen and furnishings. Our goal was to take inspiration from the outside in.

The home owners husband really wanted some green brought in. We had a few inspiration fabrics that the home owners loved and wanted to incorporate into the rooms. We create a design presentation with drawings to show the over all feel of the kitchen and samples of fabrics and furniture pieces. Once we had approval we started to demo and ordering.

THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE WE CARRY A NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE THROUGHOUT WITH WHITE DOVE BY BENJAMIN MOORE. WE ALSO USED WOODS IN VARYING TONES THAT ADD INTEREST AND DEPTH.

The kitchen cabinet color inspiration came from a tree right outside the kitchen door that we matched up. We used Vermont Danby imperial marble honed that has a warm white base with soft greys, browns, and green veining. The backsplash we choose a simple white subway tile with contrast grey grout. Wood details in the hood, counters top and open shelving tie it in with the rest of the house beam details and original doors.

Living rooms major updates were updating the fireplace and new furnishings . The fireplace was once covered with heavy barn board and natural brick. We striped it of its bad finishes that we’re not historic and started from scratch. We added natural local stone, a beautiful herringbone pattern brick tile in the firebox, distressed reclaimed beam and white shiplap. To highlight the fireplace we also incorporated lanterns for a warm glow.

Designer Tip

Inspired from a plaid Ralph Lauren pillow we found the perfect rug and chairs that pop the room color and work with the pillows. The coffee table is a old Hungarian folk painted trunk we found for the project. Simplicity was key with wall paint and window treatments. This room is filled with original wood beams, a low ceiling. The window treatments are linen shades with accent trim. By running the Roman shades to the top of the ceiling we were able to hide the windows unevenness from being a old historic home. Paint color for walls white dove.
